The Piedmont Band program begins in 6th Grade at the Intermediate School. The band program starts students on flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. 6th Grade Band focuses on the fundamentals of tone production, developing healthy practice habits, and basic music theory. Aural skills, music history, and culture are also studied in Beginning Band. The 6th Grade Beginning Band performs at two formal concerts each year. All band faculty teach the Beginning Band students.
The Middle School Band program consists of the 7th & 8th Grade Bands. These bands continue the curriculum from Beginning Band and begin to focus on basic ensemble skills and sight-reading. These bands compete in at least one music festival or contest a year, perform at Solo & Ensemble contests, and perform at least two formal concerts each year. These students are also able to audition for the CODA All-Region Honor Band. The High School Band program consists of 9th - 12th Grade students. The high school band program consists of the Pride of Piedmont Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensembles. The High School Band curriculum continues from the Middle School Band. Advanced technique, musicianship, ensemble skills, sight-reading, and analysis are the focus. Additionally, student leadership is another focus of the high school curriculum. Students may participate in Solo & Ensemble Contest and audition for the CODA All-Region Honor Band and OkMEA All-State Honor Band. Piedmont is known for it's community centered atmosphere, excellent staff, strong parental involvement, and focus on the growth of students both academically and personally. Piedmont is one of the top school districts in the State of Oklahoma and is proud of the many student accomplishments that occur each year. |
